I’ve done a few Word Associations with you over the last while, and today it’s time for another one.
So as usual I’m going to throw some words at you, and I want you to note down the first word that comes into your mind when you read each word.
So here goes…
- App
- Tie
- Ears
- Mini
- Hole
- Cable
- Glass
- Card
- Slip
- Date
So how did you get on with those words? Did you find it easy? Did your answers surprise you or were they just as you expected?
Well here’s my responses to my questions:
- Phone
- Bow
- Big
- Car
- Dig
- Laptop
- Shatter
- New
- Break
- Calendar
I still believe that when we respond with the first words that come into our minds, our answers tell us a lot about our emotional state, and what’s important to us at that particular point in time.
Bearing all this in mind, review your answers, does my theory hold true?
By the way, if you want me to explain any of my answers, just ask!
Please explain your theory re word association

It’s something I’ve been told a number of times, and have read about as well – Here’s an extract from one study I read – “In its simplest form a series of disconnected words (stimulus words) are projected orally or in writing to the respondents who must respond with the first word which comes to mind (response words). These associations reveal the respondents’ verbal memories, thought processes, emotional states, and personali- ties.”
From what I know from myself when I do these word associations, I can often tell by my responses whether I was happy/sad, tired/alert, or just what was on my mind at the time, and that is simply all I was trying to get over, it’s certainly not my theory.
Hope you enjoyed playing along though 🙂

When I see or hear the word App I think of a dog going yap, yap.
