Words of my mouth

Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.

In a single day we all utter a lot of words, but here’s something to consider – how many of the words you uttered yesterday were said with sincerity and meaning, and how many were simply words you said because they were what you thought others wanted to hear?

I’m sure we’ve all fallen victim to hollow words from others, and I just as sure we’ve also been guilty of saying things at times that have been hurtful to the person we said them to, or have said words which haven’t come from our heart.

Here’s an example – Have you ever had someone say to you, “If you ever need anything, day or night, just give me a call?”. I wonder how many of them would actually answer their phone if we were to call them in the middle of the night?

And never let ugly or hateful words come from your mouth, but instead let your words become beautiful gifts that encourage others; do this by speaking words of grace to help them.

Ephesians 4:29 (The Passion Translation)

While we may at times say things which we don’t mean, or which don’t come from our heart, God’s words are from his heart. In fact God’s words are always sincere, so when he tells us to come to him, he really does mean, whenever and wherever we are.
