Small gestures

Have you noticed how sometimes it’s a small gesture from someone, that can mean the most to you?

  • Maybe someone reaches out to you and gently squeezes your arm, just to let you know they care, and are there for you.
  • Maybe someone phones you to let you know they care about you because they know you are struggling to carry on.
  • Maybe a card with words of encouragement drops through your door one day, from an unexpected source.

I have been there – I’ve been that person who has received each of those ‘small gestures’, and I can assure you that without those gestures, I’m not sure I would still be here, serving God through the Salvation Army – I certainly would not be the person I am today.

I knew in that moment that when, my now friend, gently squeezed my arm as we passed one another, that they knew and understood how tough I was finding life, and that they were there for me – It was definitely a gesture that was massive to me.

I simply pray that something I say or do may be that ‘small gesture’ that makes a big positive different in someone else’s life, because it’s an amazing feeling to know that someone is there for you.
