We were recently watching a crime drama on TV that was set in the US, where some of the main characters were people who were members of the US Navy. I was struck while watching the programme that the members of the navy always said ‘they serve’, and they always said it with such pride and gratitude.
I then found myself wondering ‘do I serve God with such joy and gratitude?’. Mmm, honestly, not always!
God had done, and continues to do great things for each one of us, so just as we’d be grateful to a friend if they do something for us, so we should show our gratitude to God for all he does for us. When we praise God and show Him gratitude, how can we not be joyful?
So I pray that I not only continue to serve God for the rest of my life, but I do so with gratitude and joy.
