These words sum up Easter for me.
My chains are gone, I've been set free My God, my Savior has ransomed me And like a flood His mercy reigns Unending love Amazing grace
They are the words of one of my favourite songs, the words of which are particularly applicable at Easter. The song is ‘Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)’ by Chris Tomlin. It features the words of the well known hymn, Amazing Grace but also adds in this chorus with the above words.
To use such a well known hymn and put it to a different setting with an additional chorus must have been a challenge, as I’m sure some traditionalist would be looking for an excuse to say the new setting lessens the impact of the words. However for me it enhances them, as not only does the some now tell us about God’s amazing grace but also expresses the joy we will know when we acknowledge that Jesus died to save us.
What a powerful message of amazing love!
