Self esteem is typically defined as confidence in one’s own worth or abilities. As a Christian, self esteem could be defined as having confidence that we are who God says we are. In other words, we’re not dependent on our on abilities, but instead relying on God to provide all we need to achieve what we has planned for us.
Have you ever found yourself saying this about yourself, “I tried so hard, but I just wasn’t good enough”?
Don’t give in to that lie, as you are more than enough, and God tells us that in the bible.
“With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said.
2 Chronicles 32:8
Have you heard the song ‘Surrounded’? – there’s a number of artists sing this song. The lyrics are simple but powerful:
It may look like I’m surrounded, but I’m surrounded by You… This is how I fight my battles.
It’s true, our job is simply to rely on God, and to know that He is the one who will fight whatever battles we may be facing in life. In other words, we simply need to reply on God, and He will give us confidence to face life.
