Time for Christmas!

Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.

We had the first Sunday of Advent last Sunday, so it must be nearly Christmas! I don’t know about you, but I it still feels too early to be thinking about Christmas, but I think a lot of that may be down to the weather being much milder than usual this November, so it not as cold as it normally is this close to Christmas.

For many there will be particular events or things they do that have to happen in the run up to Christmas, before it really feels like Christmas for them. Maybe for you it’s when

  • you write your Christmas cards; or
  • start buying your Christmas presents; or
  • wrap all the Christmas presents; or
  • your family arrive home for Christmas.

We’ve also heard it said by people that it’s not quite Christmas until they hear the Salvation Army band! For that reason it makes our ministry at Christmas even more important as, as well as sharing music with listeners, we also have the opportunity to share God’s message of hope and love for them as well.

I’m sure we all have our favourite carols or Christmas songs, so as we start to prepare for Christmas I thought I’d share one of my favourite Christmas songs with you – ‘Breath of Heaven’ by Amy Grant, I hope it reminds you of the reason we celebrate Christmas.
