Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.
We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.
2 Corinthians 10:12
Have you ever wished you could swap your life for someone else’s? Maybe their lives look more attractive and desirable than our own. We get an airbrushed or filtered impression of other’s lives on social media that may make us envious of their opportunities, their families or relationships, or their possessions. But the truth is, other than what others share publicly, we really don’t know what is going on ‘inside’ their private lives.
Similarly, it can be easy for us to forget, that we also have our own ‘inside’ story. We forget that because we have put our trust in God, we can be assured that he has equipped us with the ability to cope, grow, and thrive no matter what challenges life’ throws our way. We forget about all those who God has placed in our lives, who have helped us, encouraged us, forgiven us, and prayed for us. We forget that God has plans for us, and will walk besides always. So would we really want to swap places with someone else when God will provide all we need?
I pray today that we may each be grateful to God for making us who we are, and for placing us just where He needs us.
What can I say to cheer a world of sorrow? How bring back hope where men have sorely failed? Just where I am I’ll speak the word of comfort, Tell how for me Christ’s sacrifice availed. Just where He needs me, My Lord has placed me; Just where He needs me, there would I be! And since He found me, by love He’s bound me To serve Him joyfully! What can I do to ease life’s heavy burdens? What can I do to help mankind in need? Just where I am I’ll share my neighbour’s hardship, Lighten his load, and prove a friend indeed. What can I do to justify my living? What can I be to make this life worthwhile? I’ll be a voice to call men to the Saviour, Just where I am, and win my Father’s smile.
