Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you.
1 Peter 5:6
As Christians, we know it is a glorious virtue to be humble, but what does it look like?
Humility is perfect quietness of heart. It is to expect nothing, to wonder at nothing that is done to me, to feel nothing done against me. It is to be at rest when nobody praises me, and when I am blamed or despised. It is to have a blessed home in the Lord, where I can go in and shut the door, and kneel to my Father in secret, and am at peace as in a deep sea of calmness, when all around and above is trouble.
Andrew Murray
This a great description of humility isn’t it!
The next time someone badmouths you, and you don’t retaliate – That’s humility. When you are not bothered when others don’t thank you or congratulate you for a job well done – That also is humility.
We become humble when we become more and more like Christ, therefore let’s make humility our goal.
