Life blessing

Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.

Blessings are often associated with protection and happiness. God’s blessings are meant to protect us, guide us to the path of righteousness, and give us hope.

Every good gift bestowed, every perfect gift received comes to us from above, courtesy of the Father of lights. He is consistent. He won’t change His mind or play tricks in the shadows.

James 1:17 (The Voice)

Ever blessing we receive comes directly from God. He sends us blessings for a reason – because we need them at that time. We therefore should not hold onto each blessing as if it’s the one blessing we will ever receive, because in holding it so tightly you may destroy the very thing that makes it a blessing to you. The poet William Blake reflects that in these words.

He who binds to himself a joy, does the winged life destroy; but he who kisses the joy as it flies lives in eternity’s sunrise.

William Blake

We must be thankful for the people, places, and situations that God places in our life at a particular time, because they are blessings. However, be willing to let those blessings go in God’s time, as God may just have placed that blessing in your life for a short time, maybe to help you though a difficult situation.

May we always remember the many blessing we receive from God, in the knowledge that we do not have to fear the future when God’s hand is over our life.
