Different kind of week for me this week, as I was on leave from work this week, and in fact I don’t go back to work until Tuesday next week!
It’s been good to relax, and not have to spend most of my days working, and still thinking about work. Did a bit of retail therapy, ate out a few times, spent some time tidying up the garden (which was much overdue) on the few days when it wasn’t raining!
In addition to this, I have spent quite a bit of time working on our Bellshill Salvation Army Band website, which I look after. Our website needed moved to our new hosting provider – this included
- migrating our database and files to our new hosting provider
- migrating our bsab.co.uk email addresses to our new provider
- installing an SSL certificate
- enforcing https on bsab.co.uk
- enabling caching
- optimising website performance
- domain registration transferred to new hosting provider
- updating/enabling. additional security
- etc.
I had to test our website on our new hosting provider before doing the final transfer from our existing hosting provider to our new provider. The good news is that although I encountered a few minor issues, my testing showed everything was working as expected, so as of about 01:00 on Friday morning our bsab.co.uk website was LIVE on our new hosting provider. I was pleased to get this work done this week, as trying to get this done while I’m working would be quick difficult and time consuming.
I now have a number of improvements to make to our bsab.co.uk website, so that going forward it can run more efficiently and securely. However that’s all work that I can do over the coming days/weeks.
Meanwhile, I have no idea what’s been going on at work this week, which is good, but does mean I’ll be back into a super busy end of sprint/start of new sprint week and all that entails when I return to work next week. I’m not looking forward to that!
Still no update on the issue I told you about a few of weeks ago in two blog posts (Accept what we know and don’t know and Accept what we know and don’t know…Part 2!)! The good news is, because of some of the work I’ve been doing this week, I can justify even more, why we shouldn’t go with the solution the person wanted to use!
