All about heaven

Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.

In the last few weeks I’ve read several online articles/blog posts about heaven. Accordingly to both articles, most people tend to think about heaven in relation to their own circumstances. i.e. they make heaven all about them! Here’s a few of the things that the articles said people think about when they focus on heaven:

  • Being reunited with loved ones.
  • Freed from pain and suffering.
  • Seeing Jesus face-to-face.

Do you think those articles were right, do we tend to think about heaven from our own perspective?

Whether we agree or disagree with those articles/blog posts, we as Christians, should always look forward with great joy, to leaving this earth one day, and being with God in heaven.

In Philippians the apostle Paul expresses that he wants to escape to heaven, because he knew God was there.

For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

Philippians 1:21 (NIV)

We can also look forward to heaven in the knowledge that there is no more sin, disease or dying.

‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.

Revelation 21:4 (NIV)

And In 2 Corinthians 5:8, Paul confirms that when our earthly body dies, going to heaven to be with the Lord, is where we should want to be.

We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:8 (NIV)

Based on these few bible verses, maybe if we have been focusing on what heaven will be like from our own perspective, that’s not such a bad thing. As Christians we should be looking forward to going to heaven one day, because it will be a joy to be with the Lord!

Yes, one day we will see face to face, Jesus
Is there a greater vision of grace?
And in a moment, we shall be changed
Yes, in a moment, we shall be changed
In a moment, we shall be changed
On that day

And when we all get to heaven
What a day of rejoicing that will be
When we all see Jesus
We'll sing and shout the victory
