Extra busy week at work again, and had some very long working days just to try and keep one step ahead of what I needed to achieve.
It was end of Sprint start of new Sprint again, so that was the root of a lot of the work I needed to get done this week – That included prep and updates for all the Sprint ceremonies, including the retrospective, estimation, planning and review ceremonies.
The new sprint which started on Tuesday was particularly difficult to plan this time, as we have a number of resources on leave in the next 2 – 3 weeks, so trying to not set expectations too high for what we’ll achieve in this sprint took a bit longer than usual. The team is working well, so hopefully we’ll still be able to achieve our goals for this sprint despite a number of people being on leave.
We also have been doing a lot of planning work in preparation for 2 modern apprentices starting in my team next week. This has taken quite a bit of time as we have to detail out everything we want them to do, as we need to remember these are young people who have had limited, if any, experience of working in an office or business environment. I’m sure they’ll setting in well, as the team are great at helping one another, so I’m sure they’ll all help with the MAs settling in.
On Friday we were meant to be getting upgraded to full-fibre broadband in the afternoon. However about 8am our door went an a subcontractor of BT was at the door and asked if they could start the work now – we declined as I needed connectivity as Iwas working from home and had organised my day so I had no meeting in the afternoon – i.e. when we’d book the upgrade for. The guys said he’d be back at 1pm. i.e. the time the upgrade was scheduled for!
The upgrade was scheduled for between 1 and 6pm on Friday – come 6pm, guess what the guy hadn’t returned to do the work! It turned our my hubby thought he saw the guy outside at 5:50pm taking a photo of our house, but the guy definitely did not knock the door or ring the bell! My husband got onto BT and the result was an official complaint was logged by BT against the subcontractor who should have done the work. We will be given a priority slot (date/time to be confirmed on Monday) to get the upgrade done by BT instead of their subcontractor.
What a disaster that was! At least BT understood and agreed with our concern/complaint, and have escalated it, as this was definitely unacceptable by their subcontractor – we suspect he just wasn’t interested in doing the work to did all he could to not do it. He should have phoned to say he was on his way, he didn’t either in the morning or late afternoon. Shocking service from the subcontractor.
Hopefully BT will get us booked in for a date very soon, as it was really disappointing what happened yesterday!
Another busy week ahead, so some more long working days ahead.
