But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
1 Peter 1:15-16 (NIV)
In the above verses it kind of sounds as if God’s giving us an order, as he reminds us that His son died for us, therefore we must obey Him, or else. The good news is God isn’t really speaking to us in that why, although he is reminding us that Christ dying for us was a very big deal, and so he wants us to be holy, because he was us to be happy in serving Him.
In other words, God is telling us to live our lives in a way that is worthy of Jesus’ sacrifice for us, all so our hearts can be full to overflowing with His love. So when God says, “Be holy”, he really has got our best interests at heart.
