Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.
One of my favourite songs is George Matheson’s hymn, ‘O love that will not let me go’, set to the tune of St. Margaret. Even during times of doubt or difficulties, the words of this song always remind me of the powerful and enduring nature of God’s love for me. It should therefore be no surprise that one of my favourite band pieces is ‘Procession To Covenant’ by William Himes.
O love that wilt not let me go, I rest my weary soul in thee; I give thee back the life I owe, that in thine ocean depths its flow may richer, fuller be. O light that followest all my way, I yield my flickering torch to thee; my heart restores its borrowed ray, that in thy sunshine’s blaze its day may brighter, fairer be. O joy that seekest me through pain, I cannot close my heart to thee; I trace the rainbow through the rain, and feel the promise is not vain that morn shall tearless be. O cross that liftest up my head, I dare not ask to fly from thee; I lay in dust life’s glory dead, and from the ground there blossoms red life that shall endless be.
I’m not going to share ‘Procession to Covenant’ with you today, but instead an arrangement by Marcus Venables which also features the tune of St. Margaret, called ‘Our Consecration’. It’s another wonderful setting of the tune St. Margaret, so is another band piece I’m starting to class as a favourite.
As you listen to ‘Our Consecration’ (Marcus Venables), I pray you will feel a sense of peace and assurance that no matter what happens in your life, you can always rely on the never-ending love of God.
