Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.
When I was young I always felt as if I wasn’t able to pray properly! I was always very conscious that when the ‘older folks’ at the corps prayed during meetings, they seemed to say very elaborate prayers that always seemed to last for ages! There did of course come a time when I realised that prayers don’t have to be elaborate or long, they just need to come from my heart.
We can all however have times when despite our hearts being full to overflowing with people or situations that lay heavy on our hearts, we can sometimes find no words to say when we try to pray. Even then, God through the Holy Spirit helps us pray as we need to, and He understands what we are trying to say.
You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:13 (English Standard Version)
This is the kind of sincerity and persistence that brings us into God’s presence and releases His grace in our lives, and in the lives of the people we are praying for.
Saviour, help me as I pray,
I don't know the words to say,
Thoughts and feelings jumbled in my mind.
But I want to find a way,
Say just what I need to say,
As I hesitate it's then I find
You are here!
Deep inside the things I feel;
You're already part of every words I'll try to say;
You are here!
Nothing can my thoughts conceal!
Help me, Saviour, as I pray.
