What great love

Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.

Today is Valentine’s Day, so what else could my topic for today’s devotions be other than love!

Valentine’s day is a day when, all around the world, people give their partner, girlfriend or boyfriend a card and/or gift to show they love them.

When it comes to God’s love for us, the well known verses of John 15:12-13 are the ones that immediately come to mind, and His love for us.

My commandment to you is this: love others as I have loved you. There is no greater way to love than to give your life for your friends.

John 15:12-13 (The Voice)

Because God loves us so much He sacrificed his only son, Jesus, so we could be forgiven – What greater way could he have shown his love for us?

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16 (NIV)

In a few week’s time we will celebrate Easter again, so as you read the words of the song, ‘Amazing Love (What Love Is this)’, I ask you to remember just how much God loves you, not just today on Valentines Day, but every day.

My Lord, what love is this
That pays so dearly
That I, the guilty one
May go free!

Amazing love, what sacrifice
The Son of God, given for me
My debt He pays, and my death He dies
That I might live, that I might live!

And so, they watched Him die
Despised, rejected
But oh, the blood He shed
Flowed for me!

Amazing love, what sacrifice
The Son of God, given for me
My debt He pays, and my death He dies
That I might live, that I might live!

And now, this love of Christ
Shall flow like rivers
So come wash your guilt away
Live again!

Amazing love, what sacrifice
The Son of God, given for me
My debt He pays, and my death He dies
That I might live, that I might live!

That I might live, that I might live!
