Be God’s Candle

Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.

In this last week I’ve found the music and the word’s of Joy Webb’s song, ‘The Candle of the Lord’, going through my head. The more I’ve thought about it, the more applicable the words of that song seem to be at this time, given the many challenging situations currently going on around the world, and closer to home.

The words of ‘The Candle of the Lord’ both asks and answers some of our questions about the God’s light. Firstly they ask

Is there a light that's strong enough to go
And clearly light the way mankind must try to go?

And then tell us the answer – that we can be God’s light in this dark world.

I am the candle of the Lord
Where truth and love more powerful than sword
Oh fan the flame it's single gleam diffuse
And let my spirit be the light that you can use
I am the candle of the Lord

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

John 1:5

Regardless of how bad things may seem or how bad things could get, there’s always hope when we have God. We can bring that hope into other peoples’ lives when we shine God’s light wherever we go. So we pray today that we may each be the candle of the Lord.

Here’s a video of Gaz Rose playing, ‘The Candle of the Lord’ as a euphonium solo. He plays the music beautifully played and it is complimented by the images in the video, as they capture the meaning and message of the words.
