He was compelled by love

Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16 (NIV)

It was God’s unrelenting and immeasurable love for us that compelled Him to give His one and only son as a sacrifice for you and me. It was God’s love for us that overcame our sin and provided a way for us to be right with Him again. God showed true love for us when he sent Jesus to earth to live as one of us.

Jesus, God’s only son, was compelled by love to save us. That is ultimately what took Him to the cross, and held Him there.

Jesus was motivated by love to bring hope to our broken world. Therefore love must be our motivation in all we do. Here’s a question for you to consider – How much do you love others, particularly those who don’t know God? Do you love them enough to share with them the one thing that matters most, that God loves them?

How can I offer less than all
When I am born again by his forgiving?
I’m compelled by love.

God needs each of us to be compelled by our love for Him, to be his disciple or messenger in our communities. He simply asks that in return for Jesus’ death, that we love everyone, and we share with them all the hope that we find in loving God.
