Sunday workout

Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.

We are regularly reminded of how much physical activity we need to keep our bodies in the best shape possible. On the NHS website it’s recommended that adults should aim to:

  • Reduce time we spend sitting or lying down and break up long periods of not moving with some activity.
  • Do strengthening activities that work all the major muscle groups (legs, hips, back, abdomen, chest, shoulders and arms) on at least 2 days a week.
  • Do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity a week, or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity a week.
  • Spread your exercise evenly over 4 to 5 days a week, or every day.

Doing the recommended amount of physical exercise per week doesn’t guarantee that we will be fit and healthy, but it does prepares our bodies, as well as possible, for daily life.

So that’s our physical well-being taken care of, but what about our spiritual well-being? If all we do to nurture our spiritual well-being is attend church on a Sunday, we will not grow spiritually or in our relationship with God.

Just like our physical well-being, we must take action to keep in shape spiritually, by doing the following::

  • Actively pursue a deeper relationship with God.
  • Offer ourselves, our life, our desires and worries all to God.
  • Spend time in quietness and reflection with God.
  • Read your bible daily and spend time reflecting on what you’ve read.
  • Thank God for everything you are grateful full on a daily basis.
  • Forgive others who have hurt you.

Next time you’re thinking about getting fit, or about to do your daily exercises, remember to not only do your physical training, but also your spiritual training. By achieving your daily spiritual training targets, your spiritual relationship with God will blossom.
