In His presence

Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.

Silence can be peaceful and serene, a time to consider life and appreciate those around you. Maybe you’ve noticed that when in the company of close friends or family, it doesn’t seem to matter how long a silence lasts for, as you are comfortable in one another’s company.

However silence can also have the opposite affect on us at time, as it may make us feel uncomfortable, stressed or even threatened. You might be in the company of someone you don’t know very well, or are nervous about how the conversation will go, and so those moments of silence can feel as if they last for ages, even though in reality they actually only last two or three seconds.

When we spend time in quietness to pray and to listen to God, that should not be a time when we feel uncomfortable in the silence. Instead it should be a time when we feel safe and secure, and conscious of God’s presence with us. For me, I find those times of silence very precious because it’s when I am conscious that I am in His presence. I pray you will experience the peace and comfort that can be found in God’s presence.

In the quiet of this hour
As I kneel before You now
I believe Your promise
To be faithful
I don't always understand
What Your perfect will demands
But I learn to trust You more
In Your presence Lord

In Your presence
There is comfort
In Your presence
There is peace
When we seek to know Your heart
We will find such blessed assurance
In Your holy presence Lord

There can be such sweet reward
When we wait upon the Lord
As we take the time
He gives His perfect wisdom
To be found in Him alone
All our deepest secrets known
We're surrounded by His grace
When we seek His face

In Your presence
There is comfort
In Your presence
There is peace
When we seek the Father's heart
We will find such blessed assurance
An ever open door
To know our Saviour more
In the presence of the Lord
