Hard time

I read some words by William Law which have stuck with me

Receive every inward and outward trouble, every disappointment…darkness and desolation with both your hands, as a blessed occasion of dying to self, and entering into a fuller fellowship with your Saviour. Look at no inward or outward trouble in any other view; reject every other thought about it; and then every kind of trial and distress will become the blessed day of your spiritual prosperity.

William Law

When I’m going through a tough time, I often find myself feeling as if I’ve had enough, that I can’t face another hardship or stressor. Then I try to remind myself again that God has promised to always be with me, through times of joy and happiness as well as through days of deep despair and hardship.

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

James 1:12

Those words from William Law remind us of God’s presence with us through it all. Plus those words from James reinforce to us that God has promised his presence to everyone who loves Him, through it all. By God’s grace we can get through hard times.
