The first few times I heard the song ‘Ready to go home’ sung by Morten Harket, I thought the song was very dark as I thought it was about being ready to die.
Since then I’ve found out more about the song, and have found a new deeper appreciation of what the song is about – It actually isn’t about preparing to die, but about looking inside yourself
- Looking for guidance from a higher power, for me, I understand that person to be God.
- Seeking forgiveness so that you can start afresh.
- Feeling vulnerable, but willing to put down your shield and meet the end of your difficult journey, head-on.
- Finding a state a rest or peace.
I love this song even more since I found out the true meaning of the song. It reminds me that even during difficult times that I can find rest when I turn to God to take all of life’s challenges and worries from me, only then will I find peace.
