Burdens

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ

Galatians 6:2 (ESV)

This verse simply invites us to do God’s work by helping others with their burdens.

To bear someone else’s burden is to step into their ‘story’ with them, not to fix their burdens, but to just be there with them as they work through them. It’s all about just being there for someone, for showing up for them. Whatever their burden we are called to carry it with them, so they are not alone, not bearing their burden in silence, but by their side.

When we carry each other’s pain, we become living reflections of that love. We fulfill the law with compassion.

You don’t need any special talents or gifts to help someone with their burdens. You just need a listening ear, and be willing to be kind and encourage someone. In other words

  • Sit with a friend who’s grieving, even when words fail.
  • Offer practical help to someone overwhelmed.
  • Pray for those whose burdens are invisible but heavy.
  • Send a note, a song, a scripture that tells them, “You’re not alone.”

Doing this is what Christ. wants us to do – It may be quiet and unseen by others, but it is deeply sacred work.
