Tenderest blessing

Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared the devotions I shared at our band practice last Wednesday evening. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.

He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

Psalm 91:4 (NIV)

When we get to the end of a day, we often carry with us the weight of all that’s happened that day – unspoken worries, unfinished tasks, quiet aches, hurts and anxieties. That’s when God invites us to come to Him, not to sleep, but to find sanctuary; not to enjoy the silence, but to be still in His presence, and find peace.

There’s a tenderness to God’s presence that meets us in the quietness of the evening. It’s not loud or demanding. It’s like a soft blanket over weary shoulders, a whisper that says, “You are safe. You are seen. You are Mine.”

Jesus Himself often withdrew to quiet places to pray and in those moments, He found rest and renewal. We are invited to do the same – To let go of striving and simply be held.

The song, ‘Now the Day Is Over’ captures this beautifully:

Father, give the weary, calm and sweet repose;
With Thy tenderest blessing, may our eyelids close.

Let Stephen Wood’s meditation ‘Thy Tenderest Blessing’, that uses these words, to be your prayer. It offers us peace, and reminds us that God’s love doesn’t sleep, even when we do.
