There’s something bittersweet about the Sunday night before returning to work after a week of annual leave – That’s how I felt last night as I had that sinking feeling when had to set the alarm to get me up for work this morning – How many emails would I have, would my calendar be full of meetings, what if any issues or new work would I have to deal with – to list just a few of the things that came into my head last night!
But here’s the thing: annual leave, spent at home is not wasted. Every nap, every walk, every shared conversation, every catch-up with a friend, is a gift from God to restore the soul. And then when we return to your daily work scheduled, we must carry that renewal with us.
He restores my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.
Psalm 23:3
Work isn’t just about tasks and deadlines, it’s about walking those paths with God, trusting that He is present in every email, every meeting, every conversation.
So when we return to your daily schedule, see it as stepping into opportunities to serve God, to shine, to bring kindness into places that need it. Our rest has prepared us for this.
And when the week feels heavy, we must remember that the same God who gave us rest will give us strength. The same Spirit who refreshed us will sustain us.
May your week be more than manageable, may it be meaningful. Because when we work with God, even ordinary tasks become extraordinary acts of worship.
