The soul is stronger than its surroundings.
William James
There’s something quietly powerful about this line. It reminds us that strength isn’t something that we can go out and find, it’s something God has already placed within us.
We often assume our circumstances dictate our capacity. If life is heavy, we feel heavy. If the world is loud, we feel overwhelmed. But Scripture tells us a different story:
Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
1 John 4:4
The soul, shaped, held, and strengthened by God, is not fragile. It’s resilient. It bends but doesn’t break. It endures what the world insists should crush it.
Maybe today you need the reminder that your surroundings don’t get the final say, but God does. And He has made you stronger than you realise.
God strengthens us from the inside out, and we’re reminded of this in ‘You Make Me Brave’ by Amanda Cook and Bethel Music.
I stand before You now
The greatness of Your renown
I've heard of the majesty and wonder of You
King of Heaven, in humility, I bow
As Your love, in wave after wave
Crashes over me, crashes over me
For You are for us, You are not against us
Champion of Heaven,
You made a way for all to enter in
I've heard You calling my name
I've heard the song of love that You sing
So I will let you draw me out beyond the shore
Into Your grace
You make me brave
You make me brave
You call me out beyond the shore into the waves
You make me brave
You make me brave
No fear can hinder now the Love that made a way
You make me brave
You make me brave
You call me out beyond the shore into the waves
You make me brave
You make me brave
No fear can hinder now the promises You've made
