Love Ran Red

Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.

Holy Week Wednesday sits in a quiet, heavy place because the crowds of Palm Sunday have faded; The tension is rising, and Jesus keeps walking steadily toward the cross – toward the place where love will speak the clearest.

Today we pause, not because of the noise of Palm Sunday, or at the darkness of Friday, as we’re not there yet, but right here, in the middle of the week where reflection becomes surrender.

Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering…
He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

Isaiah 53:4–6

Isaiah paints the picture long before the cross ever stood of

  • A Saviour who steps into our brokenness.
  • A Redeemer who carries what we cannot.
  • A Love that doesn’t stay distant but runs, pours and gives, until nothing is left but grace.

In the last week I’ve found myself listening to ‘At the Cross (Love Ran Red)’ by Chris Tomlin’ a few times. It’s a song that leads us right to that moment where everything changes, our future changed forever.

It reminds us that the cross isn’t just a symbol, it’s a meeting place:

  • where our failures meet forgiveness
  • where our striving meets rest
  • where our shame meets mercy
  • where our emptiness meets overflowing love

The song invites us to stand at the foot of the cross and remember:

  • This is where love poured out.
  • This is where hope began.
  • This is where we find our place again.
At the cross, at the cross
I surrender my life
I'm in awe of You
I'm in awe of You
Where Your love ran red
And my sin washed white
I owe all to You
I owe all to You Jesus
