Long long week

Some weeks seem to fly by, while others — like this one — feel as though they’ve lasted an entire month. It’s been a week full of meetings, conversations, decisions, and moments where I wasn’t entirely sure whether I was coming or going. At times I genuinely had to stop and think, “What meeting am I heading to now?”

Because there were so many meetings, it felt like I hadn’t managed to get any of what I’d call “real work” done. But looking back over the past few days, I’ve realised something important: in all those small pockets of time between the meetings, I was actually incredibly productive. Tasks were completed, issues were resolved, and things that had been sitting on my list for far too long finally got signed off.

It’s funny how easy it is to miss that. When a week is busy, noisy, and full of people, it can feel like you’ve achieved very little — when in reality, you’ve simply been too busy to notice the good work you’ve done.

And that, in many ways, mirrors our Christian walk. We can get so caught up in “doing” what we think is expected of us — serving, helping, showing up, being present — that we fail to see the quiet impact we have on the people around us. The conversations that encouraged someone. The kindness that steadied someone’s day. The faithfulness that spoke louder than we realised.

Scripture reminds us of this truth:

Do not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Galatians 6:9

Sometimes the harvest is happening quietly, in ways we don’t immediately see.

So next time you reach the end of a week and feel like you haven’t achieved much — whether in work or in your Christian life — pause. Slow the week down in your mind. Look at it again, gently and honestly. You might just discover that you’ve achieved far more than you first thought.
