How long is it since you rode a bike?

How long is it since you last went for swim, and not just on holiday but actually do some lengths of pool?

Even if it’s been a while since you last did either of those things, once you start again, I’m sure you’ll it’ll feel as if you never stopped doing them. i.e. you’ll ride a bike as easily as you did and remember your swim strokes as if you’ve been practicing daily.

In the same way, even it’s been a while since you knelt before God and ask for his forgiveness, so it is just easy for us to kneel before God today. So if it’s been a while since you sought God, don’t think God will have forgotten you, or you’ll not know what to say to God, as God will always welcome you, and so will make it easy for you to come to Him.

How many times have you heard a mother or father say to their child, “Do as I say” or “Do as you’re told”?

Does the child always obey? No, of course they don’t! I’m sure when we were that child being told to do something we too, didn’t always do what we were told, did we?

What about when it come to God asking us to do something, are we more willing to do what God asks of us?

I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands. ~ Psalm 119:60 (NIV)

When it comes to our heavenly Father, we need to be ready and willing to firstly, listen to Him, and secondly, do as the above bible verse says, respond quickly to all God asks us to do.

Are you ready to obey today?

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’ ~ Isaiah 6:8 (NIV)

These are words from Isaiah that I’m sure we’ve all heard many times before. I reread this passage several times in the last couple of days.

In this passage of scripture there’s no suggestion that Isaiah hesitated before he responded to God when he asked who he would send. That says so much about his faith and trust in God doesn’t it, that Isaiah didn’t stop to consider what he was ‘signing-up for’ before volunteering, because he trusted God and knew God wouldn’t ask him to do something he wouldn’t be able to do.

As I’ve reread these words in Isaiah, I have to accept that I am not always as willing to accept the plans God has for my life. I have to put my trust fully in God so that I have no hesitation when he assigns a task to me.

How about you, are you as quick to respond to God’s requests of you, as Isaiah was?

I always think the word obedience sounds very strict suggesting if we don’t obey there will be severe consequences. That sounds scary doesn’t it? However when it comes to obeying God’s will for our lives, there’s no need to be scared because obeying Him simply means following Him and giving Him your heart.

A number of years ago when I was songster accompanist at Rutherglen Salvation Army, there was a song called Obedience which became very special to me:

Lord I hear you knocking
Hear your voice appealing
Open the door of your heart
Let me enter in and
Take a centre of your life
Controlling every part

Come follow me on the way of the cross
This is the moment you must start

Chorus:
Lord I respond to your claims on my life
With obedience to that you will ask
Lord, knowing you in the way of the cross
This will be my task

Lord I know you’re prompting
Know your spirit surging
Be my desire for today
Make my will your choice and
Meet no other voice
That calls to walk another way

Come follow me on the way of the cross
This is the moment to obey

Chorus:
Lord I respond to your claims on my life
With obedience to that you will ask
Lord, knowing you in the way of the cross
This will be my task

Lord I know your presence
Be your call to service
Be what you want me to be
Serve and to your brothers
Give your life for others
As I do at Calvary

Come follow me on the way of the cross
This is the moment to be free

Chorus:
Lord I respond to your claims on my life
With obedience to that you will ask
Lord, knowing you in the way of the cross
This will be my task

Your cross, my task

I hope you enjoy the following video of Chelmsford Citadel songsters singing Obedience, and I hope you are blessed by the message:

It’s good to know that someone is looking out for you and trying to direct you along the right path isn’t it. It’s even better when you know that someone will make a conscious effort to try to help you make the right decisions.

I guess we all know people who will look out for us, but do they really look out for us 24/7? Probably not, that’s why it’s reassuring to know that God is there for us 24/7 seeking to help us find Him so He can direct and guide us along His path.

Though in declaring Christ to the sinner,
I may all men surpass,
If love impassioned seal not the message,
I am naught but sounding brass.

Love suffereth patiently;
Love worketh silently;
Love seeketh not her own.
Love never faileth;
Love still prevaileth;
Lord, in me thy love enthrone!

Though I have wisdom lighting all mysteries;
Though I may all things know;
Though great my faith be, removing mountains,
Without love ’tis empty show.

Though I distribute all my possessions;
Though as a martyr die;
My sacrifices profit me nothing.
Unless love doth sanctify.

Do you believe love is greatest gift we can have?

God’s love is stronger than any other. His love is everlasting unlike any others. Therefore what greater example of love is there than God’s love.

good lessons

I’ve found from my own experiences that the best way to learn is from my own mistakes.

Memories are a great aid to remembering people who are no longer here with us, and a great way of cheering us up when life gets tough. However these aren’t the times that we learn the most from, as learning comes from remembering our mistakes, and choosing a different path whenever we face the same choices again.

Our life lessons last a lifetime, so keep on learning!

I’ve heard the following song, He Sought Me, several times in these last few weeks – our songsters sang it last week, and when I’ve been listening to my ipod on a few occasions, various recordings of this song have come on.

A powerful song, with powerful words. Words which I find so  very reassuring.

Having had this song on my mind a lot recently, I’ve found myself thinking about the message behind the words. This was when I realised that the message it actual very simple…normally when we lose something we spent hours, sometimes even days trying to find it again. When we “lose” or ignore God, he doesn’t sit about waiting for us to find Him again, He comes looking for us, and He doesn’t give up until he find us again and we give our lives back to Him…If only everything we lost could come looking for us again!

Don’t be lost to God, find Him and give your heart to Him.

The Saviour sought and found me,
Far from the narrow way;
He made my blinded eyes to see
On that wonderful, wonderful day!

Chorus
He sought me, he sought me,
When I was wandering far away;
He found me, he found me,
O what a wonderful day!

He lifted sin’s great burden,
He saw my deep dismay,
And graciously he pardoned me
On that wonderful, wonderful day.

My sin was red like crimson,
He washed it all away;
He filled my heart with melody
On that wonderful, wonderful day.

Who knows every little detail about you, better than you do?

Who knows how you feel in every situations before you know yourself?

Who knows everything you will do and when you’ll do it before you even plan it?

God alone!

Who deserves our thanks and adoration for all he does for us?

Who loves us enough to sacrifice his own son just so we could be forgiven of our sins?

God alone!

Who loves us unconditionally regardless of our sins?

God alone!

God and God Alone

God and God alone created all these things we call our own
From the mighty to the small the Glory in them all is God’s and God’s alone

Chorus:
God and God alone is fit to take the universe’s throne
 Let everything that lives reserve its truest praise for God and God alone

God and God alone reveals the truth of all we call unknown
and the best and worst of man wont change the Master‘s plan it’s God’s and God’s alone

God and God alone will be the joy of our eternal home
He will be our one desire Our hearts will never tire of God’s and God’s alone

I am the candle of the Lord,
And truth and love more powerful than sword
O fan the flame, its single gleam diffuse,
And let my spirit be the light that you can use.
I am the candle of the Lord!

I read somewhere recently that “the candle is a symbol of the spirit of man“. To be honest I didn’t really get that when I read it. However having thought about it a bit more I realised that we are probably meant to symbolise the unlit candle, as a candle that hasn’t been lit is not fulfilling it’s purpose, just as when we don’t have God in our life, we are incomplete and will not be fulfilling our purpose in life.

Without God we cannot fulfil our true purpose, so let God into your life and let His spirit give you the power to fulfil your purpose in life.
