I’ve done a few Word Associations with you over the last while, and today it’s time for another one. So as usual I’m going to throw some words at you, and I want you to note down the first word that comes into your mind when you read each word.

So here goes…

  1. Burglar
  2. Random
  3. Patrol
  4. District
  5. Rose
  6. Irn Bru
  7. Heater
  8. Book
  9. Shopping
  10. Punctuation

wordsSo how did you get on with those words? Did you find it easy? Did your answers surprise you or were they just as you expected?

Well here’s my responses to my questions:

  1. Police
  2. Sweets
  3. Snow
  4. Area
  5. Red
  6. Original
  7. Winter
  8. Kindle
  9. Amazon
  10. Check

I still believe that when we respond with the first words that come into our minds, our answers tell us a lot about our emotional state, and what’s important to us at that particular point in time.

Bearing all this in mind, review your answers, does my theory hold true?

By the way, if you want me to explain any of my answers, just ask!

Spring?

Is it spring yet?

I don’t know about you but I’m getting really fed up with one week it being mild and time for a lighter weight jacket. But hen the next week temperatures struggle to get above zero, and we have frost, ice and snow. <sigh> I hate having to scrape the car every morning.

It feels as if winter this year, is lasting much longer than usual, and that is not good.

One thing however that has improved in the last few weeks, is the number of daylight hours we’re getting each day. If there is one thing that really gets me down during winter is getting up in the dark, going to work in the dark, and then coming home from work in the dark – I think it just makes the working day seem even longer which definitely isn’t good!

So just to brighten my day, and hopefully yours too, here are some nice spring pictures. Hopefully we’ll witness these kinds of pictures ourselves for real in the next few weeks.

Severe weather warning.

Snow, snow, and then some more snow.

Strong winds, and more snow.

Staying indoors where it’s warm and cosy until we need more food.

Shops have run out of bread, milk and most other fresh products. So glad that we bought bread the previous day.

So when’s all this snow going to stop, so we can get back to normal.

Snow has stopped falling now, but it’s still white out.

Stalactites hanging from the windows and roof. Suddenly falling to the ground making us jump at the noise.

Still it’s cold outside, and still white.

Snow’s nice to look out on when in the house but not so nice when you’re stuck somewhere in traffic.

So stay safe out there on the roads and hopefully the snow will be gone soon.

I’ve done a few Word Associations with you, and today, as the title of this post suggests, this word association is all about New Year and what it means to each of us. So as usual I’m going to throw some words at you  and I want you to note down the first word that comes into your mind when you read each word.

I’ve said in previous word association posts that I find I get a bit stressed when I’m doing them as I put a lot of pressure on myself not to over think my answers! Are you relaxed when you do them or do you find it stressful too?

I still believe that when we respond with the first words that come into our minds, our answers tell us a lot about our emotional state, and what’s important to us at that particular point in time.

I chose some words we probably all associate with New Year as well as some that I suspect if you’re not Scottish, you won’t understand (including some of my answers), maybe it’s time to find out a bit more about our Scottish New Year traditions!

I’ve done a few Word Associations with you over the last while, but as you’ll see from the title this is another Christmas word association today. It may be a Christmas edition word association, but it’s the same format, so I’m going to throw some words at you  and I want you to note down the first word that comes into your mind when you read each word.

Autumn is coming…actually it may already be here.

Already darker in the morning.

As for night time, the light’s on long before eight.

All around us nature is changing colour to show us autumn is well on its way.

As the night’s draw in, it’ll soon be time to turn the clocks back an hour.

And then it really will be autumn – the days will be shorter, the nights will be longer.

And we’ll be wondering what kind of winter we’re going to get.

A winter of storms, freezing temperatures and snow or just a cold winter with a few snow flurries.

As we can prepare for autumn and the onset of winter, we must remember that while we may be ready, many will find winter difficult as they struggle to keep warm and find enough food to eat.

All of us can do our bit to help those who will find winter difficult. All we have to do is offer them help.

Weather warnings

Have you noticed that we seem to be getting a lot more warnings of extreme weather coming our way than we used to get? It used to be that only on a very rare occasion did we get a weather warning of extreme winds, rain and/or snow, but now it seems to be at least once nearly every week!

extreme weather

I guess none of us like extreme weather, particularly if we have to go out it in, but is there any particular weather you dislike, or are even a little bit frightened of?

For me it’s gale force winds I dislike. I don’t mind rain and snow, though obviously I’d rather we didn’t get rain or snow, but I really do not like when it’s very windy. I’m not entirely sure what it is about windy weather that makes me uncomfortable, but I think it’s just because at any time anything can be blown in any direction and cause damage and injury to buildings, cars and people. So I guess it’s the not knowing what’s about to happen that I dislike about windy weather.

When I consider this I realise this really shouldn’t surprise me, as I am quite an organised person and so like to have everything planned out so I get no surprises – In other words I like to avoid unplanned/unexpected situations in my work and home life, so why would I not dislike it in weather conditions!

extreme snow Boston

falling-snow

Snow is falling.

Snow is lying.

Stay inside in the warmth or go outside and trudge through the snow?

Such a hard choice… not!

Staying inside and catching up on housework and ironing.

Still not my perfect Saturday, but at least it s Saturday so no work!

Snow’s getting heavier.

Still lying on the ground.

Sometime soon it’ll stop and hopefully clear because it brings our traffic network to a standstill.

Snow’s nice to look out on when in the house but not so nice when you’re stuck somewhere on the road.

So stay safe out there o the roads and hopefully the snow will soon be gone.

In the last little while I’ve noticed there are a number of things which many of us will put in the category of either “love them” or “hate them”. So today I thought I’d share with you some more of my love or hate things and see if you can guess which category they fall into for me:

  1. Snow
  2. Curry
  3. Exercise
  4. Flowers
  5. Party political broadcasts
  6. Hospitals
  7. Football
  8. Pepsi Max
  9. Toast
  10. Documentation

A bit of a mixed bag of things there isn’t it, but I wonder how many of them you correctly worked out that I love or hate, and how many we have in common…scroll down to find out my answers…

  1. Love
  2. Love
  3. Love
  4. Love
  5. Hate
  6. Hate
  7. Love
  8. Hate
  9. Love
  10. Hate

So there you go, how many of my answers matched yours?

“Love” and “hate” are two very strong and very different emotions and if we are honest with ourselves I think we will probably find that rather than “loving” or “hating” the items I listed above, we really just “like” or “strongly dislike” them – Does that sound about right?.

I’ve done a few Word Associations with you over the last few months, and today, as the title of this blog post suggests I’m going to give you another one, but this time all about Christmas! 3. Who is He?

4. Joseph

5. Party

6. Snow

7. Cracker

8. Christmas Film

1. Santa

2. Presents

3. Jesus Christ

4. Father

5. Work

6. Fight

7. Rubbish jokes

I chose some words you’d always associate with Christmas but I hope they got you thinking a little more about what Christmas means to you. As you may have gathered from my answers, Christmas for me is all about Jesus, and celebrating his birth.
