Ironing

Ironing – I hate ironing! But then I hate doing housework full stop, so it’s not really a surprise that I hate ironing I suppose.

Last night on Twitter I got involved with a number of friends discussing who does the ironing in our houses. It was no great surprise to me, and probably not to many other ladies out there that it appeared that us female seem to get the short straw when it comes to the ironing. While some guys appear to leave the ironing completely to their other half, some did admit to doing some ironing…but only when they really had to. If only!

Having said all that I know I have generalised greatly above, so to all you guys out there who do your own ironing I have to say….Thank you, you have restored my confidence that not all men leave us women to do the ironing – I must commend you.

So to all you guys out there, get of your butts and help your other half do the ironing as it’s hard work so should be shared, not left to one person.

My Confession

I thought it a bit ironic last night on Twitter to be talking about ironing – Why? because just yesterday we sent out a number of items to an ironing place to get ironed! before I say any more I must point out that this is definitely not the norm for us, as I normally do all our ironing. However as I hadn’t been feeling too great, I had got very behind with our ironing, so just needed a bit of a hand to catch up again.

Normal service will now be resumed, so I’ll be back doing all the ironing again from now on.

My Wish

All clothes were creaseproof, so that they could all be washed/dried and put straight away without needing ironing.

Maybe we should start a petition to all clothes manufacturer, to get them to make creaseproof clothes!…it was just a thought!

I’d welcome any comments you wish to make about this post, to back up my statements or indeed prove how wrong they are, I welcome them all!

  1. It’s about taking them out of the machine and folding right away before hanging up to dry is how we never have creased closthes.

    1. Tried that in the past, but unfortunately I didn’t find that worked for us – particularly with our work stuff – t-shirt weren’t too bad thought

  2. We try and get the clothes folded straight from the drier, or at least hung up. That way there’s a minimum of ironing. I sometimes have to do my share of ironing too.

    1. I dont tend to put all our stuff through the drier, but I’m willing to give that a go if you think it helps reduce the amount of ironing. Thanks.
Oh and well done on being the first guy on here to admit to doing your share of ironing 🙂

  3. Karl went to Uni and never ironed anything whilst he was there so I said I wasn’t going to start when he got back!! I do, I admit, iron a shirt or something if he’s got an important engagement but on the whole he does his own. Nigel always says that his ironing is better than mine so ‘hey’ get on with it then!! lol

    1. Well done you! Can you send Nigel this way and show Sandy what he needs to do as my efforts to get him to iron have failed miserably – I blame his Mum for doing all his ironing right up until we got married

  4. Well, the only things that get ironed in our house: three shirts a week for me at work, two pairs of scrubs for Mrs theWeir.

I *really* dislike ironing. It might just be a waste of life, electricity and water! Who said we needed to have *everything* ironed?

Like others, we dry as much as we can on hangers, which makes t-shirts/tops flat enough, and use the outside line when it’s the right conditions!

I hope this helps keep our electricity consumption down & give us time to do something far more entertaining. Like the dishes…

    1. Unfortunately we don’t have possibility of hang stuff outside as we’re in a flat right on a main road, but will try hanging t-shirt etc up to dry rather than chucking on clothes horse, to see if that help.
Not convinced about our work stuff, but will take up all these suggestions hanging up straight after washing and/or drying.
      Thank you for your comments.
P.S. Enjoy washing your dishes! 😉

  5. I should add that in the spring/summer once temps are above freezing we try and hang everything outside to save on the dryer. Unfortunately the only option during the winter is the dryer. Unfortunately, Pamela found out I could iron before we were married 🙂

    1. Double WOW! You don’t fancy coming up here to do some of mine as well do you?!
Congratulations on being the guy who seems to do the most ironing…so far!
Thanks for joining in the discussion 🙂

      1. I should’ve said that I do iron my own shirts at least 50% of the time. And do Mrs theWeir’s scrubs 33% of the time too…

        And I’m rubbish at ironing.
