Musical Emotions – Part 7

Last year in Music to Touch Our Hearts I listed a number of pieces of music which always pull at my heart-strings. Thereafter in the following weeks I went on to explain the reason why the 10 pieces of music/songs I listed, were special to me. As you may or may not have noticed I went on to give you details of the first six of those songs, but I never got around to telling you about numbers 7,8, 9 and 10!

Sorry! I hope to put this right over the next few weeks.

The seventh song I listed in Music to Touch Our Hearts was the beautiful song entitled Somebody Prayed For Me, here’s why:

Let me start by sharing with you the words of this song

When my heart was so broken that I could not pray,
When love wasn’t easy to see.
Someone was there, somebody cared,
Somebody prayed for me.

Somebody went to the throne of heaven,
Somebody lifted my name.
Bringing me into His holy presence,
Saying what I could not say.
Somebody showed me the face of His mercy,
When darkness was all I could see.
Somebody pleaded the Blood of Jesus,
Somebody prayed for me.

When the future looked hopeless and I’d given up,
When I had lost sight of my dreams
Somebody near, dried every tear,
Somebody prayed for me.

Somebody went to the throne of heaven,
Somebody lifted my name.
Bringing me into His holy presence,
Saying what I could not say.
Somebody showed me the face of His mercy,
When darkness was all I could see.
Somebody pleaded the Blood of Jesus,
Somebody prayed for me.

Somebody went to the throne of heaven,
Somebody lifted my name.
Bringing me into His holy presence,
Saying what I could not say.
Somebody showed me the face of His mercy,
When darkness was all I could see.
Somebody pleaded the Blood of Jesus,
Somebody prayed, Somebody prayed,
Somebody prayed, Somebody prayed,
Somebody prayed, Somebody prayed for me,
Somebody Prayed for me.

I’d heard this song a number of times and had thought it a nice song with good lyrics and a moving melody, then one Sunday in our meeting our officers (ministers) played a Powerpoint to this song. Well all I can say is thank goodness they had put off the lights in the hall so we could see the Powerpoint better, as by the time we reached the first chorus of the song the tears were streaming down my face and I most definitely was not in control of my emotions in public…and that is one of my worst nightmares!

So why did I get so emotional? Well I’d been having a bit of a tough time for a while, and had been questioning whether God really cared about be any more, as I felt as though not only that I couldn’t pray, but that there’s wasn’t any point. Having said that I had a friend who knew exactly how I was feeling and what I was going through and I knew she as well as others were praying for me, and I think that night the song and the powerful PowerPoint presentation that went with it just reminded me that although

…the future looked hopeless and I’d given up,
When I had lost sight of my dreams
Somebody near, dried every tear,
Somebody prayed for me.

At that time I truly believe God sent an angel to me in the form of my friend, as she was there for me many times drying my tears and praying for me when I had just about given up hope of making it through.

I still thank God to this day for that time, and the love and support given to me at that time by Him through my friend. Every time I hear this song now, it reminds me not only of that difficult time in my life, but that no matter how bad life may seem, there are always those around who are praying for me.
