Hurting = Growing

Someone recently said to me, “If you’re hurting–you’re growing”.

I must be honest and say that when they told me that, I laughed (in disbelief) as I couldn’t understand how I can possibly be growing just because I’m hurting. However on considering this a bit more, I realised that this statement is probably true.

After all how do you learn to deal with hurt and disappointment, except by experiencing them, as you can’t really teach someone how to cope with these things.

Therefore, when you’re hurting, don’t forget that by dealing with your hurt, you are in fact gaining real life experience and so are growing as a person.

The other thing to always remember when you’re hurting is that you are not alone…Draw nearer to God & let Him be your strength.

  1. Why do you think that it seems so hard to believe that we are growing during the times where we are actually growing the most?

    1. Personally I think it can often be because we forget that there is a reason why everything happens and that God wouldn’t put us in a situation He didn’t think we were capable of dealing with without equiping us with the tools we need to get through – those tools being prayer, friendships, specific events or actions etc.
      Could it be that we simply just don’t fully trust God during those tough times?
      Again from personal experience, I definitely think it’s a case of us not fully trusting God, although having been there at the depths of despair and getting through that with God’s help, I doubt I’ll ever find a situation where I won’t trust God again.
      Hope that answers your questions 🙂
