Opinions #2

Do you care what other people think of you?

Of course you do, you’re human!

However it’s what you do when others tell you or you hear, what others think you that matters.

Whatever you do, do not change just because others tell you you should. The only person’s opinions that should matter to you is your own – You know yourself better than anyone else, so I’m sure many of the things others say about you will be untrue and well wide of the mark, so don’t take them to heart.

Be yourself, be who God made you to be, not what or who others want you to be!

  1. I just thought I’d point out the irony at the end of this post. I was raised Christian and have recently lost my faith in favor of reason and atheism. I’m much happier and more comfortable with myself now. And isn’t that what you’re driving at by saying “be who God made you to be”?

    1. Sorry, but I’d not sure what you mean – If you could clarify your point, I’ll happily respond.

What I will just now is that, I am sorry to hear you have lost your faith and think you’re happier now without God. However while this may be your experience, it is definitely not the experience of a lot of others, including me. I may always have been a Christina, however if you’ve read many of my other blog posts, you’ll be aware that I went through a number of years where I really did not believe God was there for me. Since then I have realised that God is with me, and with each of us, it’s just a case of what we do with that knowledge, as God will help us at all times – maybe not when we want, but always in His time. God made me to be me, and by being me, I have had these life experiences, and these are what have made me a stronger person, physically and spiritually. If I’d tried to be something or someone else, the experiences would not have had the same impact on my life. God made us the way we are for a reason, and I believe He knows what’s best for me, therefore that is why I urge you to be who God made you to be and not what you think you or anyone else thinks you should be.

You seem to have forgotten that God never promised us an easy life, however He has promised to always be with us through it all. That, I am pleased to say is what makes me happy, the knowledge that whatever situations and circumstances come my way in life, that God will give me the strength and guidance to get through them. I thank God for always loving me.

      1. And what support do you have for your belief? I cannot believe that the entire universe, in its immense vastness was created for a species which took over 13 billion years to appear on a small planet in a solar system in a fairly small galaxy in a rather empty part of the universe (which may or may not be part of infinitely many other universes).

I was saying that by being raised Christian (and not having a choice in it) I was, by definition, believing what other people wanted me to believe, not what I thought was true.

I dare say if you were born in the Middle East, you’d be saying the same thing about Allah. And if you were born in Ancient Greece, you’d be saying the same thing about Zeus.

      2. I was brought up by my Mum and Dad, my Mum a Christian, my Dad an atheist, so I heard both sides of the debate, and I made my own choice as far as God is concerned – yes, I’ll admit that when I was younger I just went along with the crowd as far as church was concerned, but ultimately I did find God and recognised Him as my Saviour.

I’m sorry but I’m not going to get into a debate about God’s existent or non existence on here as this is not the place to get into such a deep debate by typed word, as that leaves everything open to interpretation and misinterpretation because you don’t know the feelings/emotions behind the words.

In answer to your question – “what support do you have for your belief?” my answer is simply, the teaching of God’s word, the bible.

Whatever you say here will never turn me from God, my life experiences and my faith are too strong.

  2. So a 1700 year old book written by ignorant desert scribes about a god from a polytheist Canaanite religion is your proof for your belief system? A book that preaches of the demoralizing, maiming, and slaughtering of countless people? Sorry, I was raised christian as well but “losing my faith” has easily been the most liberating thing to ever happen to me.

    1. I’m sorry you feel the way you do about Christianity. However, just because you do not believe in God’s existence anymore or indeed His unquestioning love for you, thankfully, does not mean it’s the same for us all.

Your comments regarding the Bible are inaccurate and I find it very sad that that someone who was brought up a Christian should now hold those beliefs about the authenticity of the Bible. I don’t know where you’ve been getting your teaching about the bible lately, as what you’ve said about it shows a very deep misunderstanding of all the teachings in the Bible.

I suspect you read this blog post with a view to “having a go” at the writer for their beliefs, as I’m not sure why else someone who professes so venomously to being an atheist had read, and commented on, this blog post as it was categorised at Christian/Religious.
