Does The Location Matter?

You’re probably wondering what the title of the blog post is in relation to…well it’s in relation to where we worship!

bellshill cultural centreAs you may know, I worship at Bellshill Salvation Army, and a couple of months ago we moved out our own hall for about 9 months so refurbishment work could be done on our hall. In this interim period we are holding our Sunday morning worship meeting in the Bellshill Cultural Centre.

When I first heard where we would be holding our services, I thought this would be really strange and wondered if it was possible that our new temporary home could really feel like a place of worship.

Well almost 2 months on, and the Cultural Centre is home! It doesn’t matter that the building we are worshiping in was not built as a place of worship. It doesn’t matter that during the rest of the week other activities take place in the hall we use for worship on a Sunday. What matters is that God is there with us when we worship Him!

Matthew 18:20 (NIV)

For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them

Why was I ever surprised that our new “home” wouldn’t feel like a place of worship!

  1. Thank you Dorothy.
For us at Glasgow City Centre, we too have been ‘homeless’ since leaving our hall in 2010. However, God has gone ahead of us and each place we have used we have made our own and met with God. God still moves, acts, convicts and invites whether in a borrowed flat, a community hall or another church’s spare room. Where 2 or 3 are gathered in his name, Jesus is there.
We will still be homless until late 2014 when we move into our new coprs centre, but have seen growth spirtually and numerically. I pray that the change in scenery gives you all a greater opportunity to focus on gathering as a community, engage with new people and I pray that you will see growth and souls won as you all make that community centre a centre for worship and transformation!
    Be blessed 🙂

    1. Thanks Matt for your words of encouragement and support. Glasgow City Centre corps has always had a special place in my heart, so I always keep an eye on what’s going on there. It must be difficult for you all having no physical “home” of your own for so long, but so pleased to hear that even during these days there has been growth in numbers, and most importantly in spirit.

I pray that as you and the others at Glasgow City Centre, and us at Bellshill find alternative locations to worship in while we’re without a home, that God will continue to help us spread His message to those in our communities and beyond.

Thank you again for your comments,
      Dot
