In yesterday’s blog post Saving your heart and your life #1, I spoke about the things we need to do to look after the physical health of our heart.
But the physical health of our heart isn’t the only thing we need to do to look after our heart. From a Christian perspective it’s so much more than that. Here’s a great description of the heart that I came across on the internet the other day.
The heart is the locus of physical and spiritual being, and represents the “central wisdom of feeling as opposed to the head-wisdom of reason”. It is compassion and understanding, life-giving and complex. It is a symbol for love. Often known as the seat of emotions, the heart is synonymous with affection.
‘It is compassion and understanding’ – what better way to describe how God can help our heart than this? He can change our heart from a hardened unwelcoming place to one full of love and compassion for our fellow man.
When we give our heart to God we stop worrying about all that we can’t control, and begin to trust God, in the knowledge that He is in control. Our heart is safe with God because we know He will never break our heart or leave us. As humans we can often find we put our trust in the wrong things or people, but when we give our heart to God, He helps us experience peace and contentment because we know we are protected and loved, unconditionally, by God.
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.Psalm 73:26
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.John 14:27
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.Psalm 34:18
There are lots of verses in the bible about how God will look after our heart and save our life, if we simple give Him our heart, I’ve shared just a few here. So whether you have already given your heart to God, or whether you’re just reading this blog post wondering whether it’s worth it, I encourage you today, to knee before God, and give your heart and your life to Him just now.
God will save your heart and your life when you give Him your heart.
