Yesterday in My Refuge, I gave you the dictionary definition of the word “refuge”:
- the state of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or difficulty.
- a place or situation providing safety or shelter.
I think told you that for me, the person I consider to be my refuge is God. This got me wondering about those who given their heart to God – who or where do they find refuge, if at all?
I guess everyone, whether they believe in God or not, has a place of refuge where they go to when in need of place to feel safe. For those who do not believe in God, their place of refuge may feel like a long term solution, however when we put our faith and trust in others they often let us down, often at our times of greatest need.
Those who have given our hearts to God will testify that God will never let them down. I can testify that this is the case as well – I don’t say that flippantly as in times of trouble, it can still seem at times that God isn’t answering our prayers and giving us “refuge” from our storms. However in believing in God, I like other Christians, know that while God is always by our side, and will help us, He will does not always answer those prayers in when we want, or even how we expect, but He will answer them.
I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
Psalm 91:2
My God, in whom I trust!”
