What now?

Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.

Last week we celebrated the lead up to Easter through Holy Week, and then on Sunday we celebrated Christ’s resurrection, and the knowledge that He is alive!

God almighty, our holy one
Conquering, victorious and risen Son,
Saviour, redeemer, Lord of light,
You saved me, freed me, and gave me life
Is there a way that I can repay
What it cost you, my Lord, that fateful day
When you gave your life upon the cross
For all mankind eternally lost?
For I know I could never pay the price,
The cost of your eternal sacrifice
For salvation is a gift that you freely gave
When you died and arose from the grave
The hope that came from your sacrifice
Is the hope we have of eternal life.

Just because all the celebrations of Easter are over, that doesn’t mean we should stop celebrating that Christ is alive. In fact even when Jesus met with his disciples after be rose from the dead, He instructed them what that they should continue His work. I shared these verses from Matthew 28 on Sunday, but today I share them again, this time from the The Message translation

Easter marked the end of Christ’s time here on earth. However it also gave Him the opportunity to remind his disciples, and us, that our work must continue. I shared the following verses from Matthew on Sunday from the Passion Translation – today I share the same verses from The Message translation.

Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: “God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:18-20 (The Message)

Jesus is risen from the dead, and is alive, and because of that, we have hope for our future. We must live our lives in a way that shows others that we are His followers. We can do that when we fully accept God into our hearts and lives, as only then will others truly see God through us.

Willingly Jesus died for us.

Dying He thought of us.

What a sacrifice He gave for us.

In living our lives for Him, we can start to repay our debt to Him.

Above all powers, above all kings
Above all nature and all created things
Above all wisdom and all the ways of man
You were here before the world began

Above all kingdoms, above all thrones
Above all wonders the world has ever known
Above all wealth and treasures of the earth
There's no way to measure what you're worth

Crucified, and laid behind the stone
You lived to die, rejected and alone
Like a rose trampled on the ground
You took the fall and thought of me
Above all

Above all powers, above all kings
Above all nature and all created things
Above all wisdom and all the ways of man
You were here before the world began

Above all kingdoms, above all thrones
Above all wonders the world has ever known
Above all wealth and treasures of the earth
There's no way to measure what you're worth

Crucified, laid behind the stone
You lived to die, rejected and alone
Like a rose trampled on the ground
You took the fall and thought of me
Above all
