Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.
While talking with a friend a couple of weeks ago, I was asked if the band would be out carolling again this Christmas, to which I indicated that we would be. We chatted about carols in general before my friend asked if we ever get fed up playing the same carols many times each year!
Thinking back to that discussion got me thinking about just how many times the band must play specific carols every year, as it’s often the same carols that the different members of the public request while we are carolling. I guess for many people, the band playing a specific carol maybe brings a smile to their face, as it reminds them of a time in their past, such as
- their childhood, when they attended Sunday school, maybe even at the Salvation Army; or
- a time when they used to attend church regularly; or
- a favourite of family member or friend who has passed away.
Yes, we may play the same carols a number of times each year while we are carolling. However, if us playing a specific carol for someone blesses them and reminds them of the reason we celebrate Christmas, our carolling has been worthwhile.
I know we will each have our own favourite and least favourite carols, so today I want to share one of my favourites, ‘Breath of Heaven (Mary’s story)’ by Amy Grant.
