Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.
In last week’s Wednesday devotions (Breath of God) I shared James Curnow’s hymn tune arrangement, ‘Breathe on me, breath of God’. This hymn tune arrangement features the tune ‘Trentham’ which we associate with Edwin Hatch’s words ‘Breathe on me, breath of God’.
Breathe on me, breath of God, Fill me with life anew, That I may love what thou dost love And do what thou wouldst do.
And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.
Psalm 9:10
While looking for a video of James Curfew’s arrangement, I came across a video of a beautiful setting of this song written for brass band by Paul Drury (originally written for mixed voices by Mark Porter). I want to share this video with you today, but ask that as you listen, you consider the words of this well-known song, and ask yourself this question – Are you really giving every part of your life to God?
If you answered ‘No’, I urge you to make the words of this song your prayer today.
Breathe on me, breath of God, Fill me with life anew, That I may love what thou dost love And do what thou wouldst do. Breathe on me, Breath of God, Until my heart is pure, Until with Thee I will one will, To do and to endure. Breathe on me, Breath of God, Till I am wholly Thine, Until this earthly part of me Glows with Thy fire divine. Breathe on me, Breath of God, So shall I never die, But live with Thee the perfect life Of Thine eternity.
