There are some hymn tunes which for me are ‘just right’ for the words that we usually associate with them, and for me the tune ‘Diademata’, which we associate with the words of ‘Crown Him with Many Crowns’, falls into this category.
It might seem an obvious thing to say, but the tune Diademata gives the words the majestic and triumphant melody, that tome, they deserve.
Crown Him with many crowns The Lamb upon the throne Hark How the heav'nly anthems drowns All music but its own! Awake, my soul And sing Of Him Who died for thee And hail Him as thy matchless King Through all eternity
Here’s an arrangement by Mark Hayes, which I found of this tune, played by Robert Venables (cornet) and Rhonda Venables (piano), which I thoroughly enjoyed listening to. I hope you enjoy it too.
