Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit.Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 5:19-20 (NIV)
It can be frustrating when a change in our circumstances mean we have to change our plans – whether that be, due to illness, an accident or travel difficulties or being let down by a friend. It during those times that it can be difficult to fully agree with the words in Ephesians, “always giving thanks to God the Father for everything”.
I wonder why it is that we find it easier to thank God for his grace and comfort, when we’re in the middle of difficult times, but we never actually thank God for the actual circumstance or event we find ourselves in. We seem to remove God from the suffering or pain we experience in those times, and don’t thank Him for the problem or circumstance, and instead just thank him for being with us in that time.
We are reminded in these words in Ephesians that we should always thank God for everything – The words aren’t we should thank God for being with us in everything but actual to thank Him for everything. So today whether whether you are going through good times or difficult times, remember to give thanks to God for your situation and circumstances, as well as giving thanks to Him for bringing you through those days.
