The joy of Christmas

Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.

Whenever someone tells you that they are expecting a child or you hear or see photos of a new born baby, it’s a joyful occasion isn’t it? No matter what kind of day or week we may be having, it cheers us up, and lifts our spirits, as there’s just something about a baby that means we can’t help but feel joyful and happy about the news.

Mary had many doubts and fears when she was told she would give birth to God’s son. However despite those doubts and fears I’m sure both her and Joseph were joyful when Jesus was born.

Suddenly a messenger of the Lord stood in front of them, and the darkness was replaced by a glorious light—the shining light of God’s glory. They were terrified!

Messenger: Don’t be afraid! Listen! I bring good news, news of great joy, news that will affect all people everywhere.

Luke 2:9-10 (The Voice)

We find the real joy of Christmas when we make the Christ the focus of the season. Born in a stable, cradled in a manger, He came from heaven to live on earth as one of us to establish the kingdom of God.

We pray that you will find real joy this Christmas, as you focus our celebrations on Jesus.
