More than just on a Sunday

It’s easy to slip into the rhythm of a Sunday Christianity—showing up for church, singing the songs, listening to the sermon and nodding as we listen, and then step back into the world unchanged. But Jesus didn’t call us to a one-day-a-week faith. He called us to follow Him daily.

Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.

Luke 9:23

i.e. Not weekly, not occasionally, but daily.

Being a Christian means letting Christ shape our thoughts, our words, and our actions every day. It means loving when it’s hard, forgiving when it hurts, and trusting when we can’t see the way forward. It’s in the quiet moments of prayer, the unnoticed acts of kindness, and the courage to stand firm in truth that our faith becomes real.

Let’s not settle for just being a Sunday-only Christian. Let’s walk with Jesus every day, at work, at home, in traffic, in joy, and in sorrow. Christianity isn’t a label we wear once a week on a Sunday, it’s a life we live, each moment at a time, with Him.

The words of the following song, provide a prayer that every part of our lives, not just our Sundays, be consecrated to God. Its lyrics speak of offering our hands, voice, time, and heart to Christ’s service:

Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

I pray that these words may be our prayer not just on a Sunday, but every day of the week. May our lives be living version of these words, where we offer our lives to the One who walks with us every day.
