God’s peace

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

John 14:27 (NIV)

There’s a kind of peace the world offers, fleeting, conditional, often dependent on circumstances. It comes and goes as life happens. It’s easily disrupted by news headlines, personal struggles, or the weight of uncertainty. Then there’s the peace Jesus speaks of in the above bible verse – We don’t need to earn it God’s peace, because He will just give us it. His peace remains, even when everything else leaves us.

In the bible verse above, Jesus was preparing His disciples for His departure, knowing fear and confusion would soon overcome them. He didn’t leave them with empty words or reassurances. Instead He leaves them with His peace.

What does it mean to receive peace not as the world gives?

It means we are held, not hurried. It means our hearts can rest, even when our minds race. It means we are not alone in the storm, even when the waves rise high. Jesus doesn’t promise the absence of trouble, but He does promise the presence of His peace.

Jesus’ peace is alive, and deeply personal to each of us. It guards our hearts and reminds us of the truth when lies try to take root. It’s the kind of peace that reminds us that we are seen, known, and loved.

So today, if your heart feels troubled or afraid, pause, breathe, and let these words wash over you: “My peace I give you.” – Not just any peace, but His peace – The peace that calmed storms, healed wounds, and carried Him through the cross.
