There’s a phrase we use so often that it can start to sound like a cliché: “There’s light at the end of the tunnel.” But every now and then, life gives you a moment that reminds you just how true, and how powerful, that picture really is.
Tunnels are part of all our stories. Seasons where everything feels narrow, heavy, or uncertain. Times when you’re just putting one foot in front of the other, hoping the path eventually opens up. Sometimes the tunnel is long. Sometimes it bends so sharply you can’t see more than a few steps ahead. And sometimes you wonder if you’re still moving at all.
But then, almost quietly, something shifts. A glimmer appears. A softening. A sense that the darkness is thinning, and before you know it, you’re stepping into brightness again, breathing easier, seeing clearer, feeling lighter.
What makes the “light at the end of the tunnel” so comforting is that it doesn’t deny the tunnel exists. It acknowledges the difficulty, the waiting, the frustration. But it insists that darkness is not the final chapter.
Light is coming.
Light is near.
Light wins.
And often, the light doesn’t arrive all at once. It grows. A little more each day. A little more strength. A little more clarity. A little more joy. Until suddenly you realise you’re not where you were, you’ve come through.
The Bible speaks often about light, not just as a symbol of goodness, but as the very presence of God. His light doesn’t always remove the tunnel, but it meets us inside it. It guides, comforts, and steadies us when we can’t see the way.
“You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.”
Psalm 18:28
That’s not just words – It’s a promise. God doesn’t wait for us at the end of the tunnel, He walks with us through it. His light is both the hope ahead and the strength beside us.
I’ve chosen the song, ‘Light of the World’ by Lauren Daigle. It’s a reminder that God’s light breaks into our darkness, not with a fanfare, but with steady, faithful presence. The song captures the truth that even when we feel surrounded by shadows, God is already shining a way forward.
Maybe you’re in a tunnel right now. Maybe you’ve just come out of one. Or maybe you’re somewhere in between, seeing hints of brightness but not quite the full sunrise.
Wherever you are, hold onto this:
The light is real.
The light is coming.
And the One who walks with you is the Light Himself.
