Light is used to symbolise God, faith or holiness throughout scripture.

For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.

Psalm 18:28 (KJV)

A burning candle can light even the darkest of rooms. It can not just light a darkened room but can show those in the room what is around them, and can guide them to a place of safety and security.

God’s love is just like that – His love can brighten even the darkest of times. And if we trust him, he will guide us through those times to a place of safety in his loving arms.

Shine His light

Light is used to symbolise God, faith or holiness throughout scripture.

For this is what the Lord has commanded us:
“I have made you a light for the Gentiles,
that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 13:47 (NIV)

When you’re at school, if a teacher asks you to do something, you should do it.

When you’re working and your line manager asks you to do a task, you should do it.

If you’re in a club and the person in charge asks you to do something, you should follow their directions.

God has given us an instruction in the above bible verse, to tell others about the love and peace that can be theirs if they give their heart to God. So just as we should do what other leaders in our lives, ask us to do, so we should follow God’s instructions to share His message with those we’re in contact with.

Are you shining God’s light to those around you?

Light is used to symbolise God, faith or holiness throughout scripture.

Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:15-16 (NIV)

You wouldn’t turn a light on in your house and then cover it with a thick blanket to stop the light from shining throughout the room. Therefore, when we know just how much God loves us, we shouldn’t hide that away either. Instead we should be sharing that knowledge with those around us. i.e. We need to shine God’s light in this dark world.

Have you ever looked up and found yourself looking straight into an extra bright light, one which, even after you look away, still blinds you for a few minutes?

But did you see the flares in the sky?
Were you blinded by the light?
Did you see the sparks filled with hope?
You are not alone
‘Cause someone’s out there, sending out flares

When there’s darkness all around us, any kind of light can seem extra bright. That’s why even in our darkest days, God’s love shines through the darkness – We simply need to reach out and take hold of God’s light of love.

I want to be blinded by God’s love – not so I don’t see and appreciate everything and everyone around me, but simply so I keep my focus on God, and keep him at the centre of all I do.

A flare can be used to either highlight your position to anyone who sees the flare, alerting them that you are in need of assistance. A flare can also be a sudden burst of bright flame or light, which can be used to give those that see it, direction to safety.

Ever tried to find your way in the pitch darkness?

Ever stumbled along in the darkness just wishing that you’d find some sort of guiding light to help you find your way?

In each of those situations, wouldn’t it be great to get some sort of light on our current situation, so that you can be guided to safety? In many ways God can be that ‘flare’ that we need in times of trouble, as if we put our trust firmly in him, no matter what we’re going through, God will be with us, and will guide us through those tough times.

So next time you see a flare or a beacon of light shining brightly, think of God – Is He shining a flare to help you find your way? Are you following?

Jesus once again addressed them: “I am the world’s Light. No one who follows me stumbles around in the darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in.” ~ John 8:12 (The Message)

Even when it seems all hope is lost we will have light in our life, if Christ is part of our life.

That’s why even in the darkest days, we can still find our way, because Jesus has promised to provide all the light we need to live in.

When it seems darkness is surrounding us, don’t despair, because no matter how bad life is, or how low we feel, we can find light in the darkness.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. ~ John 1:5 (NIV)

Even when there seems to be no hope, be assured that even where there is the smallest light, that light can overcome the darkness – Just as good can overcome evil.

Hopefully if you read yesterday’s post, Wherever, you’ll have realised that there is no reason why we should be afraid…

lord is my strength

Put your trust in God, because He will look after you every moment of every day.

Do not be afraid.

I’ve done a few Word Associations with you over the last while, and today it’s time for another one. So as usual I’m going to throw some words at you  and I want you to note down the first word that comes into your mind when you read each word.

So here goes…

  1. Line
  2. Teapotwords
  3. Logo
  4. Park
  5. Pothole
  6. Eyebrow
  7. Foil
  8. Tissue
  9. Jacket
  10. Candle

So how did you get on with those words? Did you find it easy? Did your answers surprise you or were they just as you expected?

Well here’s my responses to my questions:

  1. Tennis
  2. Brew
  3. Sign
  4. None
  5. Hundreds
  6. Brown
  7. Oven
  8. Sneeze
  9. Winter
  10. Light

I still believe that when we respond with the first words that come into our minds, our answers tell us a lot about our emotional state, and what’s important to us at that particular point in time.

Bearing all this in mind, review your answers, does my theory hold true?

By the way, if you want me to explain any of my answers, just ask!

It will come

We have to believe, we must believe, that the light of the world will light this dark world of ours.
