The light we carry

I don’t know what it is about a Sunday night, but I often find myself reflecting on the story of the previous week. While considering what the week ahead will bring, once its unwritten story unfolds. In that time between previous and next week, we get that short space of time when our heart gets a chance to reflect and breathe.

One of my favourite reminders for evenings like this comes from Albert Schweitzer, the theologian and humanitarian who spent his life lifting others:

It’s a simple line, but it carries a deep truth. No one’s light burns brightly all the time. Even the strongest, most resilient of people have moments when the flame flickers. What matters is not the dimming, it’s the rekindling. And often, that spark comes from unexpected places: a kind word, a quiet prayer, a friend who simply shows up, or even a stranger whose small act of goodness reminds you that hope is still alive.

As you step into the new week, carry this with you: your light matters. You may never know whose path will be brightened because you offered a smile, a listening ear, or a moment of grace. You may never know whose spark you’ll ignite just by being present.

And if your light feels low tonight, don’t be discouraged. You are allowed to rest. You are allowed to lean on others. You are allowed to be rekindled.

Let tomorrow find you ready: not perfect, not polished, just willing, and ready to shine again.
