The first week back after annual leave always feels longer than it really is. Even when the calendar insists it’s only been five days, my body and mind quietly disagree. This week has been exactly that — a long, full, slightly overwhelming return to reality after two weeks of rest, (some) sunshine, and a very welcome break from the busyness of work.
Going back to work meant diving straight into the deep end. The inbox alone felt like a mountain range, each email its own little peak to climb. Catching up on project progress, untangling any issues that surfaced while I was away, and getting myself back into the flow of everything that had been moving forward without me — it’s been a lot. Necessary, of course, but still a lot.
And then there’s the documentation. Every project needing its update, every detail needing captured, every next step needing shaped. It’s the kind of work that’s important but mentally draining, especially when you’re still trying to remember what day it is and why your alarm clock has suddenly become relevant again!
On top of that, making sure there’s enough work lined up for everyone — that’s its own responsibility. Balancing workloads, planning ahead, making sure no one is left without direction. It’s satisfying when it all comes together, but it definitely adds to the weight of the week.

So tonight, as Friday settles in, I feel a quiet relief. The kind that comes from knowing I’ve made it through the first stretch. It’s been busy, tiring, and full-on, but it’s also been productive. The inbox is under control, the projects are documented, the team has what they need, and the week, finally, is done.
Now it’s time to breathe a little, to let my shoulders drop, to ease into the weekend and allow my mind to slow down after running at full speed since Monday. The first week back is always the hardest, but it’s behind me now, and that feels good.
A gentle evening, a quiet night, and the promise of a slower Saturday ahead, that’s enough for me for now.
